They say life begins when you step outside your comfort zone; this could be taking the training wheels off a starter bike, evolving to walking from crawling or leaving home for the first time. All movements required to get you going.
For me, that holds true to where I am today in my journey of being an event professional. I have always been the creative type; from drawing on the walls as a child, cutting out the pages of fashion magazines to create Look Books “BEFORE” there was Pinterest or redoing my bedroom as a teenager with the changing of the seasons. That is still the same today, but have graduated to my workspace and home.
Later in life, it was travelling to places unknown; whether with a group or solo and using that same curiosity to learn and grow my passions.
The one thing that always was at the core of these actions was creating an environment that was full of fun, light, creativity and memories; because even if I didn’t realize then, the environment you’re in does wonders for your mind, body and soul!
So Why Events….
This is a question that I get whenever anyone finds out what I do. The answer always goes back to “I get to create experiences that people can deposit into what I like to call their MSP (Memory Savings Plan), and THAT is pretty awesome.”
I didn’t always know I would end up being in the events industry, I applied to my first job with nothing more than social committee volunteer experience and no formal training. However almost a decade later, a college diploma in Event Management, and hundreds of events on my experience belt to date and counting: it's safe to say I found my way!
They say that when you love doing something, it's not work. I say they its inspiration and fuel for making that passion into a living. So, what does one do once they find their passion? Well, gain all the experience you can to grow it and turn it into a finely processioned skillset which you can share with the world!
So the next time you debate whether you should take that job, move abroad or take a chance on something that scares you; remember that young child who decided to ride that bike with no training wheels, can end up being the person today who screams “ Look Ma No Hands”
